Every day, millions of members like you participate in the Engine for Good business model Care2 supports as a certified B Corporation. This “engine” is a simple yet powerful concept: use business to solve social and environmental problems, thereby generating income to continue doing “good” — a truly virtuous cycle.
Today we’re proud to support B Lab in launching the B the Change campaign, a global movement to celebrate and reward people using business as a force for good. Visit B the Change to join the movement and learn how you can make a difference.
B Lab is the non-profit organization that governs, assesses and certifies B Corporations, also known as Benefit Corporations. B Lab uses rigorous standards in social and environmental performance to ensure that all certified companies share the same commitment to the community and principles in sustainability. When Care2 was first certified as a B Corp in December 2008, there were just over 100 B Corps. Today, there are over 900 across 29 countries working together under the same vision: to redefine success in business.
The tenets of the B Corp were inherent in Care2 from the very beginning. The company was founded as a way to leverage the power of the internet to allow people to make a difference in their own lives and communities at every level. The B Corp expands on that ideal, and we joined hundreds of other companies in obtaining certification to further demonstrate our commitment to using business for good.
Care2′s mission is to help people make the world a better place, and there is no shortage of ways for members to contribute to that goal. Whether it’s by campaigning for meaningful change through creating petitions, making individual changes to live a more sustainable and healthy lifestyle, or getting informed on Care2′s core causes, these actions work collectively to strengthen communities, protect our environment and create positive output as a company.
Care2 proudly shares its B Corp certification to emphasize our responsibility to global society. Like hundreds of other B Corps, we want to contribute to the world in a positive and sustainable way. Consider supporting fellow B Corps — like EcoJot, an eco-friendly stationary company (pictured left), or Plum Organics, which focuses on providing children with organic, minimally-processed and locally produced snacks.
To maintain certification, each company compiles a yearly Impact Report to ensure B Lab’s standards in governance, community and environment are being maintained. You can view Care2′s 2013 Impact Report here.
Whether you’re a longtime member or have just begun using our services, you’re sure to notice Care2′s butterfly logo. The butterfly effect serves as the foundation of Care2′s engine for good. We believe that a single individual can take a small step and make a huge difference, and this concept applies to B Corps as well.
As Care2 enters its sixth year as a B Corp, we take a moment to thank all of our members who have enabled us to do good. We also remind ourselves that as we continue to work together, we can do even more to B the Change we wish to see in our world.
Thank you for caring!
President and CEO, Care2
